Converting credits to deposits

We run training courses where students pay a fee ($500) and where part of that is a non refundable deposit ($200) that they can apply to another course if they drop out.  When a student cancels, we issue a RMA as a credit to their account.  If we only refund $300, that leaves a negative balance (implying that we owe them money, which we do not).  Is there a way to convert that -$200 balance to a customer deposit?
