Getting sales order # into an invoice

Hi all,

My customers are small biz's that don't use P.O. #'s a lot of time.  They are having such a hard time matching up our fulfillment notices, which have the sales order (SO) #'s to our invoices, which don't have the sales order #'s.  I managed to get the SO # into our PDF invoice, but couldn't do it in the HTML/email version.  Is there a way to get the sales order # into an HTML Transaction Layout?  Can anyone tell me how?
