Tracking Cash in Multiple Currencies

I am sure someone out there has run into this issue: tracking cash in multiple currencies. I would really appreciate it if someone, anyone would reply and point me in the right direction..

our cashbox contains various currencies as our customers pay with various currencies.

option 1- If i make my cashbox account of type "other asset" i can post transactions of varying currencies into this one account. In financial reports the total cash amount will show in the base currency of the company.
Problem: when i register a cash sale in netsuite, my cashbox account is not shown if it is of type "other asset".
