Budget Pros/Cons

I'm thinking about using NS budgeting module, but have a few questions:

1. What are the pros/cons to using NS Budgeting?
2. Does the budget hit the G/L or is simply a reporting/measuring tool?
3. What pitfalls should I watch out for?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!
