How do I change posting period to 2010?

Hi all, dumb question alert-

Where do I find the option to change the posting period?

I entered in a payment for a customer earlier today, and realized the payment posted to 2007- must be automatic since 2010 wasn't found?

We don't have 2010 listed in our posting options yet, but I can't remember where to go to fix this?
