Opening Balance in Trial Balance

Hi,

I have a NS implementation where the periods are defined by calendar year , with 4 qtrs and months under it. However when I look at the trial balance of the second year (2010) it shows the opening balance as the balance on 1/4/2010 instead of 1/1/2010.  I am using reporting by date and taking the report as on 30/6/2010.

Why would that be ? I have not find a place to define a fiscal year except for the Accounting Periods where the fiscal year coincides with the calendar year.
