Importing Custom Lists - Matrix Item Options

Hi All -
Is there any way to import entries into a custom list for use as a matrix item option list? 

We are preparing to manually enter 1300 options into two lists (size/color), and would like to automate this to save a few hours of work and eliminate the potential for human errors that could complicate matrix item imports in the future. 

Can anyone provide a solution here?
If not, can you confirm that importing this information is not possible?
