Merchant E-Solutions- Invalid Transaction ID

I can't figure out why transactions are not settling from the error message:

"Invalid Transaction ID. Correct the transaction ID, then re-submit." :h_a_w:

We use Merchant E-Solutions.

Can some one wiser then me explain...

How is a transaction id assigned or created?

What has caused the error message?

How do I go about fixing this issue for existing transactions?

How do I prevent this from reoccurring?
