Profitability on Drop ship items

We're trying to build some profitability and margin reports but we're having trouble on our drop ship items. The COGS on the fulfillment record is $0 when we mark ship drop ship items. Average Cost also only works for inventory items. How are other people who drop ship reconciling this to get good reporting in a timely manner, I'm open to suggestions?
