Chaning item availability on transactions

Here's our issue... we have many users that are all allowed to update and change items at will :h_a_w:. Somehow, during some kind of update, all of our inventory items were given an Income Account. I would like to remove the Income Account so that certain items aren't available for sale. Is this possible? I keep getting the following error:

"The account change you have made is incompatible with old transactions. Please either change the account selection appropriately or do not request to update past transactions."

Even though we've never directly sold these items, I get this error. Is there a way to "not request to update past transactions"? Or possibly a work around?
