Margins by Customers

Hi,

I am a new user & also completely new to NetSuite program so I apologise in advance if I am asking a basic question

I would like to record Sales & COGS by Customers (by category for example online customers, Major retailer etc) to capture margins by customer.  I understand that "Classes" is a good way to track financials but I am not sure if this is the right option.  Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
