Setting a field at the line level = Mandatory

This doesn't seem to be available as a 1 off setting on a selected form.  I understand that I can make it mandatory globally but I do not want to.  Is there any other tricks to get this done at the line level?  Is there any plans to make this available in a new release?  I'm sure this would help out many Netsuite customers.  For example, I would love to have the department field mandatory at the line level on POs and Bills but not on Invoices
