Cost of Good Sold - Can I Journal/Post Manually?

Hi,

We've had a number of NetSuite solution providers.  One of our early ones gave some pretty bad advice, so I am sceptical of some things they have told us.  I thought I'd ask here for clarification:

We have the standard COGS account ("Cost of Goods Sold (system)").  We have been told that we should NEVER post manual entries to this account as it's a system account and should only be updated by the system via fulfillments etc.

Is that true?  We would like to make some adjustments via Journal entries that hot this account and I don't see any issue with that.  So, can we post Journals to this account safely?
