Auto populating Class from Department Master

Hi

We are using both departments and class to classify revenue and costs for financial reporting.  Even though the class is maintained on the department record master data,  the class does not default on transactions once the department has been entered.  Is there a way  to force the class to default on transactions  based off the department master once the department has been populated by the user.
