Why does NS only give me average costs on reports

Why does NS only give me average costs on reports? Even though different styles of item 'A' all cost the same price to manufacture.
Is there a way to pull this information from a report, or even better, to have it displayed on the item record itself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
