Disable items from being added to new opportunities / estimates

Hi,

We have a bunch of promo items, which can no longer be added to new opportunities or estimates from 1 June 2016. These items are still active for existing opportunities (ie they can be ordered and invoiced up to 30 June), so we cannot make them inactive. Is there a way to keep them active, but prevent them from being added to a new opportunities / estimates?
