Kit changes - must update sales order but we don't want to update SO

in Accounting / ERP

We sometimes need to make changes to the members of a kit.   When there are existing sales orders, we want the members to stay as they were at the time the order was created but Netsuite gives an error on the item fulfillment forcing us to update the sales order with the updated kit members/components.   Is there a way to have netsuite just have the kit flow through as it was at the time of order entry?
