Clear a List Field?

Hello,
I am importing some customer records. For some of the customer records I need to clear a list field. For others I need to set that same field. In an update import has anyone discovered how to set a null value for a list field? In my import the fields get set correctly but if the import cell is blank the previous value stays there when it should have been cleared.
