Your opinions of the payroll module?

We are considering purchasing the payroll module and I started reading some of the threads here and got spooked out.  Is it as bad as it seems?  One person said something like "Now I have days to do payroll" - horrible!

We have 2 employees on payroll and expect that to grow to around 12 in the next 6 months.  We will be using commissions as well.  Not sure how well that functionality works either.

Any information or guidance would be appreciated.
