Cost Estimate Type Not Taking Effect Until SO Approval

I have just discovered the Gross Profit feature on Netsuite.  Looks like it could be a fantastic little tool.

However, I have one issue with the functionality that I'm hoping someone can help with.

I want the Sales Team to be able to see the Gross Profit of their Sales Orders BEFORE the Sales Order is approved. 

All our items are custom prices so the item sale and purchase price are both zero.  When we put in a SO, we put in a custom price and enter an amount into the PO Rate field to filter through to the PO on approval.  I have now also set the Cost Estimate Type to be "Purchase Order Rate".
