Historical Accounts Receivable Aging

When running any aged accounts receivable reports, the aged columns work properly only when running the report as of the current date.  It is not possible to go back and run a correct report for previous dates.  The age columns are not accurate.  Anyone know how to design a report that would accurately show a historical aged ar list?
