Multiple Customers Paying on One Invoice

I have a client that needs to be able to have one invoice be paid by three different customers.  I've explained that in general, only one customer can be associated to any transaction.  But I'm wondering if anybody else has any idea how to solve this particular issue.  My idea was to split the original order into three different sales orders and assign each one to a different customer.  Any other ideas are appreciated!
