Revenue Recognition Schedule on an Invoice?

I have been using the SuiteTalk Web Services API to create invoices with revenue recognition schedules on the line items, but have recently started seeing performance problems with this approach (the invoices have 1000s of line items).  Is it possible to create a single schedule on the invoice that will be applied to all of the line items, rather than having the same schedule duplicated for each item?  The schema suggests that this should be possible and the invoice form can be customized to expose revenue recognition options, but I haven’t been able to make this work.  When adding the
