Current Accounting Period - Change End Date?

edited Dec 23, 2019 10:47PM in Accounting / ERP 1 comment

Can I change the end date of the period I'm currently in (and of course the start date of next period)?

Scenario -
Today is 10/27/16
My current period runs 10/1/16 thru 10/31/16, next period is 11/1/16 thru 11/30/16
Netsuite will let me change the current accounting period to 10/1/16 thru 11/20/16 and the next period to 11/21/16 thru 11/30/16.
All other periods, year end, etc. would remain the same.
Obviously, current period would be open.  Actually several preceding periods are also open.
Our "Allow transaction date outside of posting period" is set to Warn.

Anyone ever do this?  Will anything "bad" happen?

The reason we're looking into this is that our small, privately held company may be acquired.

Howdy, Stranger!
