overriding mandatory fields

Hi -

Is there any way to override what fields are mandatory for a form which is submitted via Suitescript?  We have some fields which we recently made manditory on our default forms, but when running code to update older records, it fails with a "Please enter values for ..." error because those older forms lack the now-mandatory information.

Any suggestions?
