Any cross-reference of search operators to field types?

Most of the time I have a good idea which search operators will work with each field type, but I still get it wrong some of the time.

Since getting this wrong always seems to generate an 'Unexpected Error' rather than indicating 'Invalid Operator' and telling me which filter is wrong, debugging it is a little tedious.

Is there any documentation of which operators work with which field types, rather than just the list of all the operators?
