Newsletter Template

I'm finding the template design to send out a montlhy newsletter rather difficult for the average person. I want to be able to merge customer record fields in the template which I can, but I also want to merge specific "newletter" data in the template (e.g. special content, dates, content authors, etc). In other words, I want to create a custom record where the marketing person can simply enter the title, content (or contents) in HTML, links to pictures, and so on and somehow "point" this to the template on merge to add the content.
