Hiding a subtab

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to hide a subtab on a lead form based on the category of lead. I've hidden all manner of fields but haven't been able to hide any subtabs. I've tried

form.getSubList('Custom').setDisplayType('hidden');

but it appears that I can't hide subtabs on an entity record using JavaScript. Is this as designed - we're not meant to hide them using JS?
