Client Script - Save Event

I have a client side script that changes the value of an on-screen field during the 'Save' event.

I put in a 'alert' right after the 'setfieldvalue' and it properly shows the new value in the field.

That new value doesn't get saved with the record though. If I retrieve the same customer record in hte UI, the old value is there.

Any ideas?
