Event Date

Anyone have an idea of how to isolate a pure date field for the Event Date?  The format includes the reoccurance (one time event occurring on 10/30/2008 and I need 10/30/2008 only) from the Event Date.

I know this is possible using the ACTIVITY date, but I don't have access to Activity Fields... within a contact search.  Is there a way to create a custom CRM field that sources the date from this Event Date field?  Or Script something that populates a CRM field with the correct date format?

I am somewhat of a suitescripting novice - I have done a few but am willing to try anything.
