Script to set ASA using item info

Hi All:

I am attempting to implement Alternate Sales Amount (ASA) in order to pay commissions differently on different items. That is, we have some items that we want to pay on 6x the amount, and the remainder we want to pay on 1X.

Idea #1 was to just use the commission module by item, but it doesn't work for a variety of reasons (for instance, there are hundreds of items).

Ideas #2 was to use ASA and a custom Item Field I have called MRC. The items that get multiplied have MRC=true; the rest have it false or null.

So I tried something like this:
