Customization on cart/checkout page

Hi,

We are trying to integrate our NS shopping cart into our Volusion store but we are having trouble editing the cart/checkout to look like our current software. Would scriptable checkout be able to accomplish this? Is there a separate API or documentation that would help me on my way?
