Validating using Saved Search on Customer Center Order List->Items Permissions Issue

When trying to do a saved search in a validation routine for a form in customer center, I get List->Items Permissions issue.  How would you do a check using a saved search or lookup from a customer center.   Netsuite support seems to be going very slow on this case so maybe someone has done this before
