Relatedtab URL parameter

I've noticed that there is a "relatedtab" parameter in URLs. Does anyone know when it shows up? Same goes for "whence". Does anyone know when it comes up and what it is used for? I believe "whence" is used as a reference to the previous record but not 100% sure.

I'm setting up a redirect from a suitelet to a customer record and want it to open directly on a specific tab (ie Financial)
