Create a kit/item group on the fly using SuiteScript? Possible?

I've been using NetSuite for some time now, so I know my way around a few things, but I've never really ventured into SuiteScript. Basically I just need to know if this is possible (and if you have any resources to point me in the right direction, that would be dandy)

Scenario: We're having trouble with matrix items correctly tracking through inventory due to a variety of factors, so as an alternative to matrix items, there's talk of migrating to kits and/or item groups. The only problem is being able to select transaction item options for the members of this group an having dynamic pricing, which apparently has been a NetSuite enhancement request for something like 5 years...
