PO workflow retrigger

I have created a PO workflow, this workflow would need to retrigger everytime the amount on the PO changes.
there is an api to trigger a workflow on demand. It is nlapiInitiateWorkflow. I will need to get the value of the amount of the record and have a check to see if the amount has changed. If the amount has changed call the api to trigger the workflow.
i have no experience in scripts, any help would be awesome.
