Need help with scripting on Custom Button..

Hello Everyone,

I have a situation, where I need to submit a record through custom button. I am doing some validation & manipulation of the record in edit mode through the custom button. So, when user click on the custom button; the record should get saved as it happens using the standard 'Save' button.

I am able to do the manipulation using the custom button, however not able to perform the save operation. I have tried submitrecord api, but it did not help me. Is there any API to do so; Am I missing something here.
