Using Netsuite Classes in Suitescript?

Trying to use Netsuite classes in a Suitescript.

Just to clarify what type of "classes" I am trying to use. It's the Class section found inside Netsuite under "classifications" same place "departments" and "locations" are found under "Setup".

When I try to use 'class' as a record type in any Suitescript API call I get:
"class is not a valid internal id"

Specifically I'd like to use either nlapiLookupField to grab the parent ID or nlapiSeachRecord to do the samething.

Am I not able to access this classes inside Netsuite?
