Time Entry Portlet on Dashboard

I have a pretty good handle on suitescript, but I don't know where to start with portlets. Our sales reps have requested the ability to do time entry from a portlet from their home screen. Can anyone give me any tips or point me in the right direction on where to look to scope this out?
