Capturing GL impact of a deposit

Been pondering this for a little while. Our University is moving to a new accounting system, and this provides us an opportunity to add a level of detail to their records from the records we collect in NS.
What I'm hoping to do is capture the GL impact when we do a deposit/apply payment in NetSuite (which we do once we've applied those deposits in the 'official' University systems). I can then process and parse this into appropriate cost codes, and provide line-item detail in our main campus system, which will help in reconciliation (when, inevitably, something is misapplied, misdeposited, or miskeyed with the main campus).
