Saved Search Formula: Get value between tags on text field

Hi All,

I have a single text field that i hope to record multiple values in.
I then wish to display each of these values in a separate column on a search.

A way i thought of doing this was to surround each of the values that i wish to output in the search in different custom tags then extract the values using a regex formula.

e.g. In the text field i want to put something like:
<tag1>value1</tag1><tag2>value2</tag2><tag3>value3</tag3>

Then in my saved search i would create three results columns of type formula numeric and extract each of the values as follows:
