Custom Button ID

I have created a custom button in the standard way on a custom form. Now I would like to set the button to visible / invisible in a script. To do so I need the button id but I can not seem to find it anywhere. When I check within the HTML it just states 'custformbutton0' which is not accepted in the script.
Can anyone please clarify how to get the id of a custom button ??
