SuiteScript 2.0

I was looking at the release notes for 2016.1, and it isn't clear to me if new features are being added to SuiteScript 2 and 1 in parallel. For example new methods are being added to the template renderer in SuiteScript 2.0 but not in SuiteScript 1.

Is SuiteScript 2.0 out of beta? if not when will it be

Will SuiteScript 1.0 be deprecated at anytime and you will be required to re-write scripts in 2.0?
