trying to understand nlapiSearchRecord - any help appreciated.

Hello.

I'm trying to use nlapiSearchRecord in an aftersubmit user event script. Basically, I want to get the internal id of the item, and search for any kit items that the item is a member of. I then want to populate the internal ids of any matching kits to a field on the item record.

I feel like I'm really close, but there's something I'm not quite doing right. It's not returning any value if the item is not in a kit. That's good.

When it does appear in a kit it is populating the custom field with "nlobjSearchResult" - not what I'm expecting...
