Google/Yahoo and MSN

Can anyone tell me what the above search engines can do with the standard web site. I have just signed up to Netsuite and Yahoo has spidered my site but it appears to have just cached the front page. Will it eventually come back and spider the rest of the pages and what about the other engines?

I have seen posts about Site Maps, but I am not sure what a site map is. I have not submitted my site as I have not yet finished all the pages and do not want my site to be spidred before all the content is up. My concern is that Yahoo does not seem to have followed any of the links on the front page. I note that the Netsuite pages cannot be validated through the W3C validator which does concern me.
