Set up Domain names with WSDK

Hello,
In the online help for setting up a WSDK site, the workthrough flowchart says that you have to set up domain names.  However, in the WSDK task and more information chart, what tells you what to do and in what order, no mention is made of setting up domain names. 
I have setup the name in setup website, website basics tab.
That gives me the name I want when I go to preview website.

Do I still need to setup domain names?
What for and why when I have an external site that pulls information from Netsuite and when someone clicks on the shopping cart, it takes them to the Netsuite shopping cart?
