Audience + password protection

We have some areas of our website that have the audience set to all customers which basically means registered users must log in to gain access. However if you go directly to a url that is protected in this way it simply comes back with the message:

"this category is no longer available"

Where is this text set? and how can i change it? i would like to link directly to this cateogry but giving the user the option to log in if they are not already? any ideas on how to change this?????
