Display in WebSite without "Buy Now" Button

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to display matrix inventory items online but not allow them to be ordered? 

For example we have seasonal items available that we would like customers to be able to see but with a message that says available through XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX with NO order button?

I know I could create a custom template that has no Buy Now button but is there a better way?
