'Continue Shopping' Button

Does anyone understand the 'Continue Shopping' button?

I am developing a website which is in testing stages at the moment, and when we click on the 'Continue Shopping' button, Netsuite tries to send the user back to the homepage with the URL:

/index.html?whence=

but an error message is displayed. At that point, everything goes into complete meltdown and you can't access any part of the site until you shut down the browser and restart it - you just get that same error message.
