Multiple images to item detailed

Hi
I am trying to show multiple images to my item detailed page.
I am following right process as per help guide.

I have created custom image field in my item record.
i have selected my image there.
i have called this custom image field using <%=getCurrentAttribute('item','altimage')%>

but in my item it is just showing url, not the hyper link or not the image.
how to get that...

Please advice me.

i want to see a small thumbnails and by clicking on that the big image will change.
